GEN. TINIO, Nueva Ecija – Another suspected leader of a hold-up gang was killed in this far flung municipality, this time by unidentified men.
Reports reaching the office of Senior Supt. Ricardo Marquez, provincial police director, said a certain Eustaquio Antalan,42, was killed by still unidentified armed men at Sitio Bical, Barangay San Pedro here early morning Sunday.
Investigation disclosed Antalan, a resident of Barangay San Pedro, also of this town, was driving a tricycle on his way home when the gunmen fired at him.
“The suspects fled immediately and Antalan died on the spot,” police said.
Antalan, an alleged leader of the hold-up gang called Antalan Group that operates in nearby areas, sustained two gunshot wounds on his back, police probers said.
Investigators recovered two empty shells from a cal. 45 pistol.
Police continue to look into the supposed criminal records of Antalan.
The incident occurred days after three suspected robbers were killed in an encounter with elements of the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office (NEPPO) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Aliaga, Nueva Ecija.
The suspects, along with others who remain at large, have reportedly ransacked the office of Tarlac Electric Cooperative (Tarelco) II in the adjacent town of Zaragoza. Called as the Campanero Gang, the group carted away some P240,000 in cash, a computer set, four mobile phones, television and used the firm’s vehicle.
A follow up operation conducted by the police’s special reaction team (PSRT) resulted to the encounter where the trio died instantly.
