ANGELES CITY – “I can attest that many parts of Angeles will experience flash floods once Taug dike collapses.”
Thus said businessman Renato “Abong” Tayag of Carmenville, Subdivision yesterday in support of the statements of two village chiefs that the damaged Taug dike in Barangay Cuayan will cause flash floods here once it collapses.
He added that their posh subdivision in Barangay Cutcut and other areas in Anunas and Pulung Bulu will also be affected.
He said it could affect “even Balibago depending on where the water will go because the area is downstream.”
Tayag disclosed that Taug dike collapsed four times: 1967, 1971, 1981 and 1991. He added that “in those four occasions, there was flash flood and water entered our house in Carmenville.”
“I am speaking based on experience and a resident of Carmenville,” added Tayag, president of the Advocacy for the Development of Central Luzon (ADCL).
He agreed with Village Chiefs Arturo Candelaria of Cuayan and Robert Yeen of Salapungan that there was reason to panic as two portions of Taug dike had been breached.
“The concerned authorities should repair it now before its too late,” said Tayag. He added that the last time Taug dike had been rehabilitated was during the time of then Mayor and now Pampanga First District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin.
In a text message, City Administrator Mark Allen Sison said Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno had allotted a budget for the repair work at the protective dike.
He added that the bidding for the project would be done “as soon as possible.”
“The construction may start next month,” said Sison. He added that he is not yet privy to the amount of the budget for the repair work.
Tayag, for his part, said “ordinary repair work would not last long.” He added that “sheet filing’ should be done at Taug.
