City of San Fernando, Pampanga—Even on a work-from-home scheme, selected music teachers and education program supervisors of the Department of Education Region III have completed the review and finalization of old folksongs and homegrown musical pieces to be included in the Compendium of Selected Folk Songs in Region III.

The compendium contains a total of 74 old folksongs revived from the Book of Folksong of Region 3, 24 local songs, and 26 regional songs. It also comes with the printed musical scores with chords and minus one of folk songs for classroom use.

“This collection of Selected Folk Songs in Region 3 is crafted to cater to the demand for music teaching and geared towards imparting knowledge to the students and developing their sense of history and cultural identity. The material is contextualized and developmentally-appropriate with complete and precise notation with chords and a minus one to suit the needs of every teacher in teaching music with ease and confidence in harmony with the content and performance standards with the K to 12 curriculum,” explained Regional Director Nicolas T. Capulong.

The compendium includes 6 folksongs from Aurora, 8 folksongs from Bataan, 11 folksongs from Bulacan, 15 folksongs from Nueva Ecija, 19 folksongs from Pampanga, 6 folksongs from Tarlac, and 37 folksongs from Zambales.

“We have gathered and reviewed the folksongs from the old compilation and added other homegrown musical pieces. We also enhanced the arrangements and made them user-friendly for teachers and students,” said Rafael Rubio, the Band Conductor of the DepEd Region III Symphonic Band.

The team tasked to review and finalize the folksongs is comprised of selected music teachers, members of the DepEd Region III Symphonic Band, and education supervisors in-charge of Music.

The complete list and videos of selected folksongs included in the compendium are uploaded in the DepEd Region III website at region3.deped.gov.ph.
