QUEZON CITY – United States Ambassador Harry Thomas Jr. has announced that there are at least 6,600 available jobs for Filipinos in the United States right now.

“We just want you to be honest about your aspirations,” said Thomas during the opening of the America in 3D at the SM North Edsa here on March 18.

Thomas issued the statements to Filipinos who are interested in acquiring a United States of America visa.

“We are open for business. We gave over 10,000 fiance visas last year. We have a huge visa adoption section. We’re customer friendly. We want people to come and visit, come and study,” said Thomas, who was joined by Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista, Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte and SM Supermalls President Annie Garcia in opening the three-day event kicked off by live performances of singers Martin Nievera and Jaya.

Thomas said America in 3D is a road show in Democracy, Development and Defense. He added that a second leg will be held in Baguio City in July this year.

He said that there will be food tasting, film showing and sports clinic, among others. There will also be opportunities to meet representatives of various embassy sections and agencies, including Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), visa section, the United States Agency for International Development, Peace Corps and U.S. Commercial Service.

Garcia, in her speech, said the founder of SM malls, Henry Sy, drew his inspiration from putting up his shoe business in the country from the USA.

She disclosed that the first set of shoes sold at Sy’s stores in Manila came from the US.
