ANGELES CITY – Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno has ordered the distribution of some P14 million Christmas bonuses of city hall workers on Wednesday, ending speculations that the city government could not release them late this month as mandated by law.

City Administrator Ireneo “Bong” Alvaro, in a text message yesterday, said “no more issues, tuloy ang Pasko ng mga empleyado ng city hall.”

Alvaro expressed hope that Nepomuceno would even give “extra bonuses” to workers before the end of the year.

“Naghihintay na lang ng extra bonus baka sakali may i-announce si Mayor (We are waiting for an extra bonus which may be announced by the mayor),” said Alvaro. “I hope he would do so.”

Alvaro though could not pinpoint when they will be able to pay the salaries of Job Order Workers (JOs).

“JOs’ are now being proccesed,” he said.

Alvaro said they had not been able to pay the salaries of some 140 JO’s due to “several statutory obligations they had to pay at the last quarter of the year.”  He added that they employ an average of 1,000 JOs.

The city administrator said matters are being threshed out on the request of 23 barangay captains, including Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) President Robin Nepomuceno, to immediately release their shares on the real property tax and tax credits.

The 23 village chiefs, in a letter dated November 18, said “our group is contemplating on taking legal action on this matter but will in the meantime wait for your resolute intervention.”
