CABANATUAN CITY – A suspected member of a gun-for-hire gang with pending warrant of arrest for robbery was killed by still unidentified suspects in Barangay San Francisco, Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija on Wednesday.

Police identified the fatality as Rogelio Gallardo, Jr., 28, a resident of Barangay Dolores, Sto. Domingo.

Supt. Ricardo Villanueva, chief of the provincial police’s intelligence and investigation branch, said Gallardo was riding a black motorcycle  with two unnamed backriders at about 6:30 a.m. when fired at repeatedly by the suspects on board a car who fled immediately after the attack.

Gallardo sustained multiple gunshot wounds in his body that resulted to his instant death, police said.

His companions escaped and were nowhere to be found.

Scene of the crime operatives recovered one cal. 45 pistol loaded with magazine and ammunition, supposedly owned by Gallardo. He was not able to fire back, investigation showed.

Follow-up investigations revealed the victim was allegedly a member of the so-called Gallardo group headed by his own brother, Alberto Gallardo, which was involved in robbery and gun-for-hire activities in Nueva Ecija and adjoining areas.

The victim has a standing warrant of arrest for robbery with criminal case no. SD-09-2035 issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 37 in Baloc, Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija on January 18, 2010 with a recommended bail of P180,000, Villanueva said.
