MABALACAT CITY — Not your usual Pinoy romantic-comedy movie starring Alessandra De Rossi (Through Night and Day) and Piolo Pascual (Hayop Ka! The Nimfa Dimaano Story), My Amanda is set to premiere on Netflix July 15.
My Amanda marks the directorial debut of Alessandra while Piolo co-produced the movie.
My Amanda tells the story of an unusually close best friends TJ and Amanda, who fondly call each other “Fuffy” and “Fream” as they go through the motions of their relationship as long-time best friends while dealing with their own complicated affairs.
In an exclusive online press conference held July 7, Alessandra revealed that My Amanda was based on her personal friendship and its dynamics to share a different kind of love story.
“This story is very personal to me because it’s about my friendships, literally. My guy best friend’s name is TJ, and he’s (Piolo) PJ. I just used the real name and even what we call each other, Fuffy and Fream, but of course, the story has nothing to do with real life. I just used the dynamics of the friendship that’s intimate and not superficial, rare and sincere. That’s what I wanted to talk about because all Pinoys are fans of rom-coms,” said Alessandra.
“As personal as it was for Alessandra, it was personal for me as well, and to be given this kind of support by Netflix, it’s big for us. We’re just really excited,” Piolo added.
Alessandra also shared that the movie is a gift for Piolo for turning her life around with the production of the highly successful indie movie “Kita Kita” which Alessandra also starred in together with Empoy Marquez.
“When she pitched it (My Amanda), I didn’t think twice because I knew it was a good film, and it’s a good story to tell. As a producer, it’s always risky to produce, but once you believe in a project, once you believe in the idea, you go all in, you dive headfirst,” said Piolo.
