CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Alert cops immediately arrested a motorcycle-riding gunman who shot dead a businessman and critically injured his wife at the Essel Supermarket in Barangay Telebastagan here at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
A report from provincial director Senior Supt. Marlon Madrid identifi ed the suspect as Benjamin Fontanilla of Barangay Calulut of this city.
His victims were identified as Emmanuel Avedillo, who died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds, and his wife Erlinda who was reported to be in critical condition at the nearby Sacred Heart Medical Center in Angeles City.
Both were residents of Barangay Sabanilla in Mexico town. The report said the couple was with their son Warren Avedillo at the Gustav Pizza House at Essel Supermarket for a meeting with a certain Vicky Fontanilla. It wasn’t immediately clear whether Vicky was related to the suspect, as they had the same surnames.
Upon arrival, the couple first went to bet at the supermarket’s lotto outlet where a man wearing a jacket and a hood over his head showed up and immediately fired at them before fleeing on board a red motorcycle towards this city’s downtown area.
The couple’s son was unharmed. Alerted policemen on patrol at the southern area of this city, however, intercepted the suspect who surrendered peacefully. Police declined to release further details on the case pending thorough questioning of the suspect against whom charges of murder and frustrated murder were prepared.
