CABANATUAN CITY – Charges for violating Republic Act 7581, otherwise known as “The Price Act, have been filed against an online reseller who allegedly sold overpriced isopropyl alcohol in a buybust operation by the National Bureau of Investigation, a ranking official said Monday.

Pedro Roque, Jr., chief of the NBI Cabanatuan district office, said cases were filed against suspect Rodolfo Santiago, 35, of Barangay Bicos, Rizal, Nueva Ecija, in an inquest proceeding Friday.

Roque said an entrapment operation against the suspect was hatched after his office received information from “reliable sources” about his illicit activity of a certain “Ethel” who, due to lack of stocks, referred them to Santiago as her co-reseller on March 30.

“Through several telephone calls (on April 2) the dealwith the subject was concluded for the purchase of alcohol,” Roque said. His prices are exorbitant and his goods definitely overpriced.

The suspect, according to Roque, said the suspect allegedly sold isopropyl alcohol to the undercover agents at P990 per gallon which was way above the P488 per gallon or P61/500ml suggested retail price of the Department of Trade and Industry.

The NBI recovered from the suspect 11 containers of 1 gallon, 16 of 1 liter and four of 500ml, Roque said.
