ANGELES CITY – Largely out of the public eye since resigning as chief of the Philippine National Police in October 2019 amid the “ninja cops” controversy, retired Gen. Oscar “Oca” Albayalde has become all too visible, looming large – literally – in this gargantuan advertising billboard beside the Abacan Bridge here.
“Our Choice” in text above a water jug-bearing Albayalde is seen as a teaser advancing some political agenda – for the city or the 1st District, as yet unclearly. For the record, Albayalde relinquished his post as top cop of the country and went into non-duty status effective Oct. 14, 2019 barely more than three weeks before his Nov. 8, 2019 compulsory retirement amid allegations dragging him into the reselling of seized illegal drugs.
