ANGELES CITY – Al fresco dining on top of a building right in the heart of the city is now the fashion to beat the summer heat for both locals and tourists alike.

With its sumptuous international cuisines and the majestic Mt. Arayat in the backdrop, the Veranda Herbs and Spices Restaurant is fast becoming the favorite buff et restaurant here.

A casual observer would note that diners tend to stay longer as the atmosphere is pampered with the melodious rhythm from a mini grand piano with an accompanying violinist.

On March 22, as a manifestation of its delectable cuisine, the restaurant will be the recipient of “The Best Angeles City Restaurant for Buffet” to be given by the Asian First National Product Quality Excellence Award.

Located on the top floor of Hanniel Square Building Corner P. De Guzman Street in Barangay Claro M. Recto here, the building is owned by Engr. Doming Garcia who is also the owner of DM Residente Hotel Inn and Villas in nearby Balibago but his son Chef Martin Oliver Garcia and his wife Lovely run the business.

Chef Oliver said the restaurant serves buffet on Saturdays only but with an array of international cuisines which happened to be Cambodian last weekend.

Garcia said the mainstay is the roasted Angus beef which has become an all-time favorite while the absolutely guilt-free pastries are done by his wife.

Among the wide variety of house specialties are the Veranda signature salad with three choices of dressings from Caesar, Balsamic Vinaigrette and minty mango-cilantro,; lamb adobo (lamb ribs braised in adobo sauce and topped with garlic); and the chicken tikka masala (skewed chicken breast with herbs and spices).

The restaurant is open daily at dinner time from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
