CLARK FREEPORT – Philippines AirAsia will launch its second international flight in July, offering daily trips to Hong Kong via the Clark International Airport (CIA).
AirAsia Chief Executive Officer Marianne Hontiveros told journalists last week that their daily Clark-Hong Kong flights came to realization with the air operator certificate issued to them last February.
On June 9, AirAsia is set to launch its first regional flights from Clark to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Hontiveros disclosed that the low cost carrier also targets flights to Singapore, Bangkok in Thailand, Macau, South Korea and mainland China.
She added that they also plan to travel to Japan once the country’s Category 2 classification is lifted.
AirAsia launched domestic flights to Davao and Kalibo on March 28. Then at Puerto Princesa City on April 20.
Hontiveros said two more Airbus A320 planes will be delivered in November and December this year. Last year, two of the same plane model assembled in France arrived at their hub in Clark.
AirAsia has an initial investment estimated at P468 million in Clark.
The local AirAsia belongs to the AirAsia group, which has close to 100 airplanes and will serve about 33 million passengers this year.
AirAsia also has hubs in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. It is set to launch a hub in Japan this year.
