HERMOSA, Bataan – The second victim of food poisoning after eating eggplant omelet laced with insecticides used for termite control died of cardiac arrest at the Orani District Hospital here, the attending physician said.
Dr. Ramon Escota said Victoria Sabado, 42, of barangay Bacong, Hermosa, Bataan, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Orani hospital at 7:59 p.m. on Thursday. The doctor said the victim had no more blood pressure and no heart beat. They tried to revive the patient but to no avail.
From the Bataan General Hospital in Balanga, the mother with her two children, also victims of poisoning, were on board two separate ambulances going to the Philippine General Hospital in Manila when she suffered cardiac arrest in barangay Calaguiman, Samal town. Samal is the second town away from Balanga.
Victoria’s husband, Ricardo Sabado, 48, 1st barangay councilman of Bacong, died on Thursday morning while being treated at the Bataan General Hospital. They were poisoned after the wife unknowingly used insecticide (used in eradicating termites) instead of flour in cooking tortang talong for breakfast.
They were first rushed to the Dinalupihan District Hospital but then transferred to BGH.
Dr. Deodar Dimaunahan of the Dinalupihan Hospital said husband and wife with their two children arrived at about 8:00 a.m. of Thursday complaining of heavy vomiting and bowel excretion and severe stomach ache after eating talong for breakfast.
The doctor said he had the four placed under observation for food poisoning. He was told later by the family that what they ate was mixed with insecticide for termites.
“Makabubuti na sumangguni agad sa ospital o pinakamalapit na clinic kapag nakakain ng pagkaing may lason upang malapatan agad ng lunas,” Dimaunahan said. He said that medication for poisoning depends on the amount of intake and the type of poison taken.
