CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – As the bodies of five drowning victims surfaced on the Pampanga river in San Luis town last Wednesday, yet another two kids were reported to have also drowned elsewhere in the same river in Barangay Sulipan in Apalit town.
Pampanga police director Senior Supt. R’Win Pagkalinawan said that at about 2:55 p.m. Wednesday, Lolita Mandap, 13 and Khaela Rufino, 12 were reported to have drowned while learning how to swim in the Pampanga River in Sulipan.
He said the local police conducted search operations but the victims still had to be found as of yesterday morning.
Also last Wednesday, the bodies of five drowning victims were recovered one after the other up to 1:44 p.m. after their boat capsized about an hour earlier in the Pampanga River in Barangay Sto. Tomas in San Luis. The incident occurred amid a brief but heavy downpour as the victims were headed to the other side of the riverbank for a picnic.
Pagkalinawan said two others survived after they clung to a floating cluster of water lilies and were rescued by a fisherman.
