Mariveles, Bataan: The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) and the Ironman Group’s Sunrise Events, Inc. held a test run here as a prelude to the 5150 Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) triathlon next year.
The sports event started December 7, 2024 with a media conference with AFAB administrator & CEO Hussein Pangandaman, AFAB deputy administrator Malou Herrera and Ironman group president Princess Galura at the FAB administration building in Mariveles.
At dawn of December 8, the triathletes headed to Camaya Coast in Mariveles where the recon officially started and ended at the FAB administration building.
AFAB information officer Hazel Keith Elloren said the activity is a reconnaissance event to test the course for next year’s actual Ironman x FAB 5150 race.
Joining the recon were 31 triathletes from seven participating teams in the 1.5 kilometer swim, 40 kms bike and 10kms run. The participants are from Century Tuna Tri Hard, Sante Barley Triteam, Tri SND Barracuda, Fit PH, The Next Step Tri, Isabela Tri Club, and Go for Gold.
Simultaneously, the FAB Run, a five-kilometer fun run designed to celebrate fitness, community spirit, and the joy of running, was conducted as well in order to provide opportunity for FAB employees and locators to get involved in the action, Elloren said.
Some 300 local participants from the FAB community participated in the FAB run.
“With its ideal blend of scenic coastal roads, lush greenery, and top-tier amenities, the FAB is being poised to become a premier destination for triathletes,” Elloren said.(30)
