GEN. NATIVIDAD, Nueva Ecija — While no exact date has been set for the return of  Mary Jane Veloso, the overseas Filipino worker who has been languishing in an Indonesian jail, her mother Celia could not help but think of dishes to prepare for her first meal, hopefully, on their table.

“Adobong baboy at inihaw na isda,” Celia said, saying these were Mary Jane’s favorite viands back home.

Celia reiterated her appeal to Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to ensure her daughter’s safety should she be sent o the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong City, noting that one of her recruiters, Maria Cristina Sergio is detained in the same facility.

“Kaya nakikiusap po ako sa ating pangulo kung ganun nga po ang naging usapan nila ng Indonesia sana safe na lugar na nila ilagay si Mary Jane huwag na po sa Mandaluyong,” she said.

Veloso was convicted of drug trafficking after authorities found 2.6 kilograms of heroin packed in her luggage in 2010 and was sentenced to death by firing squad.

The execution was stayed upon appeal by then-Pres. Benigno Simeon Aquino III.

Mary Jane maintained her innocence, arguing the luggage was only handed to her by Sergio.
