ANGELES CITY – The pilot-husband of young actress Sunshine Dizon was charged by the city police with reckless imprudence resulting to homicide after his car hit and killed a 60-year-old Badjao grandmother along the MacArthur highway in Barangay Balibago here at about 11 p.m. last Monday.
City police director Senior Supt. Danny Bautista identified the suspect as John Timonty Tan, 24, a resident of 221 Sto, Nino in Guagua, Pampanga. Police investigators said Tan is the husband of Dizon, known as one of the actress mainstays of television network GMA 7.
Bautista identified the victim as Joara Alidane, a widower and a Badjao native from Jolo, Sulu. The victim lived with her family at a bridge in Hensonville Subdivision in this city.
Probers said that the traffic light was on green mode when Tan’s northern bound car sped by and hit the victim who was crossing the highway in this city’s tourist and commercial district in Balibago.
Probers said Tan was driving a black Ford Focus sports vehicle, with plate No. MST 320 whose front was severely dented by the impact. The victim apparently died on the spot and her remains were brought to Funenaria Pangilinan here.
A police report noted that Tan initially sped on immediately after the accident, but went back to surrender himself to the police a few minutes later. He was jailed after his surrender but was expected to post bail yesterday.
Published reports from entertainment publications indicated that Tan and Dizon met in Pampanga in November last year and got married in civil ceremonies last March 10. The couple is reportedly slated to get married in church this December when Dizon’s father arrives from the US where some members of the Dizon family live.
