ANGELES CITY – Students, senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs) and the general public are up in arms against the traffic jam and rerouting caused by the ongoing remodelling of the pavement along Sto. Entiero street in the vicinity of the so-called “heritage district” here.

Robby Tantingco, Holy Angel University VP for external affairs and corporate communications, said students complain of being late because of the traffic.

Senior citizens going to the Holy Rosary Parish Church as well as PWDs complain of the rerouting of public utility jeeps which are barred from entering the area from Sto. Entiero Street and have to go all the way to Plaza Miranda.

Motorists complain of the lack of signages warning of the ongoing construction and traffic rerouting. “Mabigla naka mu makasara ne pala ing dalan kasi alang signages (You will be surprised to discover that the road is already closed because there are no signages).”

Atty. Jeff Miranda, City Traffic Chief, said the problem has been brought about mainly by the development in the heritage area and assured that the ongoing construction will be finished before the Holy Week.

“You will notice the construction of a portion of Sto. Entierro Street necessitating its temporary closure. But this will be finished before the Holy Week,” Miranda said.

“We have adopted measures that will ease this traffic burden. After the Lenten Season, we expect traffic in that area to flow smoothly,” he added.

Miranda begs the indulgence of the public because the signages were not installed on time to warn motorists of the ongoing construction.

“Actually, pepa rush ne ning mayor ining project ayni nya mitauli lang bagya reng signages pero makakabit nala (… the mayor wanted the project to be rushed that is why the signages were late but they are already installed),” Miranda said.

He also said traffic personnel were already augmented to assist the motoring public.
