ANGELES CITY – The National Rabies Prevention and Control Program (NRPCP) of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) has awarded this city’s veterinary office as one of the few local governments with the best rabies program implementation.
NRPCP chairman and BAI director Ronnie Domingo cited the city’s “excellent handling and implementation of this city’s various rabies prevention and control programs.”
City veterinarian Dr. Mario Samson personally received the plaque of recognition from Domingo during the awarding ceremonies coinciding with the country’s celebration of the 2018 World Rabies Day held on September 28 at Brentwood Hotel, Quezon City.
Samson noted that the award was aimed to encourage local governments in the country to fight rabies.
“We have been zealous in doing our responsibilities, though the award was unexpected. We are thankful to the whole committee for recognizing all our efforts,” said Samson.
The Angeles City veterinary office was one of the two LGUs in Central Luzon that received recognition.
“I appreciate the efforts and hard work of our City Veterinary Office headed by Dr. Mario Samson. Ninety percent of Angeles City’s dog and cat population in the city’s 33 barangays are already vaccinated through the regular conduct of free anti-rabies vaccination program every year in each barangay,” enthused Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan.
“I am also proud to say that not a single case of human death related to rabies has been noted in Angeles City since 2010.” Pamintuan added.
Aside from free anti-rabies vaccine for animals, the veterinary office here also conducts information education campaign and seminars in various schools and homeowners association, encouraging folk to be responsible pet owners. It has also been using media to promote free spaying and neutering for domesticated animals.
