ANGELES CITY – The city being spared from recent Tropical Storm Dante has not relented Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr.’s “always prepared” mantra to the city offices principally in charge of addressing calamities.
On Thursday, Lazatin together with chief adviser and tactician IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel inspected the stockpile of 700 sacks of rice and 1,500 relief goods in the city social welfare and development office.
The mayor instructed CSWD officer Joy Duaso to ready the said food packs in case of any calamity.
At the raising of the tropical cyclone wind signal on Tuesday, Lazatin promptly ordered city disaster risk reduction officer Rudy Simeon to immediately evacuate informal settlers residing on the Abacan riverbed, Barangay Malabanias.
A total of 13 families, composed of 45 individuals, were evacuated as part of the pre-emptive measures implemented by the city government.
Lazatin also ordered the dismantling of their makeshift houses in the Abacan riverbed and assured the informal settlers to be relocated in a government-owned property.
The city government also ensured that evacuation centers are prepared in times of emergency.
