ANGELES CITY – The local government here led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. has started to install bike pathways along the McArthur Highway in a bid to promote a bike-friendly city.
This was confirmed by City Engineer Donato Dizon, who was instructed by Mayor Lazatin last June to conduct initial ocular inspection of the city’s main roadways to determine the areas where bike pathways can be installed.
According to Engr. Dizon, initial markings were already put up last June to give way for the clearing of road obstructions until August.
“Kasalukuyan pong naglalagay ang siyudad ng mga bike pathways sa Mac Arthur H-way. We have already finished our final markings. Traffic signages will also be installed,” Dizon said.
Mayor Lazatin, amid the pandemic, wants to encourage his kababayans to adopt a healthier lifestyle by using bicycles as an alternative mode of transportation.
Lazatin, a bike enthusiast himself, stressed the importance of creating the said bike lanes, ensuring the safety of cyclists alongside the motor vehicles, and pedestrians to avoid any road accidents.
“Alam naman po natin na may mabuting dulot po ang pagbibisikleta sa ating pangangatawan, lalo na ngayon pong panahon na ito, kailangan natin ng ehersisyo,” Lazatin said.
