ANGELES CITY – Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. led the house-to-house distribution of the P1,000 cash assistance and Vitamin C supplements to some 7,438 registered senior citizens from the city’s four barangays on February 7, 2022.
Mayor Lazatin said this is the kick-off distribution of the financial assistance and two-month supply of Vitamin C to 40,159 registered seniors from the city’s 33 barangays.
“It is our primary aim to continue look out for the welfare of the elderly. Lahat po ay sisiguraduhin nating mabibisita at mabibigyan ng P1,000 cash aid at vitamins,” Lazatin shared.
The Office for the Senior Citizens Affairs led by Eduardo Torres, with the support of the Gender and Development Office headed by Mina Cabiles, is targeting to distribute the assistance of the 7,438 elderly from the four barangays this week.
The seniors are from Barangays Amsic with 920 seniors; Pampang with 1,932; Malabanias (2,138); and Cutcut (2,448).
Torres meanwhile said that there are four teams formed to simultaneously distribute the P1,000 financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements in the four barangays.
After this, Torres added, the distribution in the remaining barangays will follow suit.
“Inuna lamang po natin yung mga largest barangays, after po nating matapos ang mga barangay na ito, mag-po-proceed na tayo sa pamimigay sa mga iba pa pong barangay,” Torres explained.
This program of the Lazatin administration started in 2019.
In the succeeding year, a total of 462 bedridden elderly and 396 seniors, aged 90 to 99 years old were given calcium carbonate supplements with P2,000 financial assistance.
Even before the pandemic, the city government has been administering free vaccines to seniors against flu and pneumonia. In fact, a total of 7,811 elderly have availed of the Anti-Flu and Anti-Pneumonia vaccination.
Meanwhile, amid the pandemic, the city government also carried out a house-to-house distribution of Vitamin C to 25,000 indigent senior citizens.
Some 33,000 seniors also received P1,000 social amelioration financial assistance and Vitamin C from the city government last May 2020.
