ANGELES CITY – A total of 57 defective weighing scales were confiscated by the local government here during a surprise weighing scale inspection held recently at the Pampang Public Market.
The Task Force is composed of representatives from the Office of the City Mayor- Clearing Operations Group (COG), Business Permit and Licensing Division (BPLD), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The operation aims to guarantee that the weighing scales used by market tenants are in good working condition, and to ensure that market patrons are getting what they pay for.
COG Supervising Officer and head of the task force, Jesus Quinto, observed that most of the weighing scales are faulty, and are being used by some vendors to trick their customers.
According to BPLD Chief Evangeline Malonzo, some of the confiscated weighing scales will be returned to the owners after they are recalibrated, tagged and sealed by the City Treasurer’s Office while very impaired weighing scales will be seized and disposed.
Aside from the surprise inspection, the team also conducted a clearing operation at the market vicinity to ensure that road and traffic-related laws are being followed.
