ANGELES CITY – A digital transformation center has been established at the city library here by the city government in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology.

This, through a memorandum of agreement signed by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. with DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy and regional director Antonio Edward Padre at the Angeles City Library and Information Center on May 29.

Under the MOA, the city government is to implement a Technology Empowerment for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development project, also known as Tech4ED.

The DICT donated an equipment package consisting of 11 computers for the project, and provides access from its platform.

The MOA cited Angeles City as “qualified to establish” the Tech4ED which aims to “harness ICT to bridge the digital divide and alleviate poverty in the unserved and undeserved communities in the Philippines.”

In thanking the DICT for supporting the city government in implementing the project, Lazatin assured: “Makakaasa po kayo na iingatan po namin ang inyong mga binigay na equipment, na tiyak pong malaking tulong para sa aking mga kababayan.”

Present during the MOA signing were city librarian Erma Manalo, and Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office chief Irish Bonus-Llego.

To recall, the city government had renovated its city library last March with its first-class facilities. To date, the city library houses roughly 7,000 books.

The city library also has a newly-established children’s section and it offers a free high speed internet connection to students, researchers, and visitors.
