MARIVELES, Bataan — AboitizPower held for the first time an educational series known as “Power 101” aimed at empowering members of the media and public information officers with specific knowledge on the power industry and the operation of a coal-fired power plant. 

In attendance at the Mt. Tarak Guest House in Barangay Alas-Asin here on Tuesday were members of the media and PIOs of local government units from Bataan, Zambales, and Quezon.

AboitizPower operates the GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD), 2×724.965 MW (gross) and GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co. (GMEC), 2×325.805 MW (gross) in Mariveles.

AboitizPower is also involved in the operation of three units in Pagbilao, Quezon.  The first two units are 2 x 367.5 MW with total 735 MW. These are owned by AboitizPower thru Therma Luzon, Inc. The 3rd unit is 388.40 MW. Ownership of Unit 3 is 50/50, AboitizPower Therma Luzon, Inc. and Team Energy, called Pagbilao Energy Corp.

Overall total is 1,123.40 MW for the Pagbilao power plant.

“Gusto naming makatulong, ma-improve ang information ng ating key communicators gaya ng mga media, iba’t ibang stakeholders na matulungan kaming magcommunicate sa ating public na ganito pala ang sistema kung paano pinoproduce ang kuryente hanggang makarating sa ating bahay,” Andrea Madrid, AbotizPower VP for Corporate Services – North Luzon, explained on the holding of Power 101.

 “Ito ay para mas may malawak tayong pag-intindi dahil meron na tayong pinag-uusapang energy transition nang sa ganoon magkaroon tayo ng mas magandang dialog,” she furthered.

“The goal is to equip media and public information professionals with the necessary context and knowledge to provide balance and insightful coverage of the energy sector which is vital to national development,” Madrid added. 

Mark Marolllano, supervising science research specialist of the Department of Energy, dealt on the Philippine Energy Landscape.

Rechimer Daitol, GNPD maintenance senior manager North Luzon, discussed how a coal-fired power plant work while JK Huyatid, AboitizPower corporate affairs manager, talked on Introduction to Transition Business Group and Role of Baseload.  

In-between the discussion of the resource persons, AbotizPower digital and media relations officer Dominic Bolo ably hosted a game show patterned after Dingdong Dante’s Family Feud of GMA Integrated News with mediamen and PIOs as contestants.
