ANGELES CITY – When this city was ravaged by the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991, he stood up and led Angeleños to get on their feet under the battlecry Agyu tamu! (Yes we can).
Using the same battlecry, Lakas-CMD-Kampi mayoralty bet Atty. Edgardo “EdPam” Pamintuan will again lead Angeleños to takeover city hall, vowing to save the city suffering from a “man-made calamity” for almost three years under the Nepomuceno administration.
“Abe-abe, saup saup, agyu tamu…” says Pamintuan’s campaign jingle that captured the hearts of Angeleños.
Atty. Dennis Pamintuan, EdPam’s campaign manager, said Agyu Tamu was a three-pronged crisis program that aims to: deliver basic services to the people; to restore the trust and confidence of the people to the city government; and lay down the framework of the medium-term development of the city.
“Whenever Angeles City is suffering from a crisis, whether natural or man-made, EdPam is always there to get Angeles City on its feet,” he added.
He also said that with an overwhelming trust rating from various surveys conducted by independent firms and political parties, and the support of almost all sectoral and religious groups, “the former mayor and cabinet secretary is sure to win.”
Various groups, especially Masa Cu, earlier expressed their full support for EdPam and even raised funds for the latter’s campaign.
“Kami at ang aming mga kaibigan na nasa Canada, US at Australia ay nagbigay ng tulong noong malaman namin na hahabol ng mayor si EdPam (We and our friends in Canada, US and Australia all helped when we heard the news that EdPam will run for mayor),” said a member of the Masa Cu (also an employee of the city government here) who refused to be named fearing reprisal.
He added that Angeleños know the real issues hounding the Nepomuceno administration and will not allow alleged irregularities at the city hall to continue.
For his part, EdPam vowed to accomplish all his platform of government and the contract with Angeleños that include: 1) The establishment of a city college and making Angeles City as “City of Education” in Central Luzon; 2) Establishment and empower an “Angeles City Multi-Sectoral Good Governance Council” as a means to end graft and corruption in government; 3) Target the planting of one million trees within and around Angeles City to promote environmental regeneration and help reverse global warming; 4) Holding of a Multi-Sectoral Summit to draft the city’s medium and long term development program outlining major economic, infrastructure, education and social development programs; 5) Upgrading of the Ospital Ning Angeles to a tertiary hospital level characterized by improved medical services and sufficient supplies of medicines and other hospital needs, including the acquisition of CT Scan machines; 6) Improvement of public market facilities to ensure cleanliness and orderliness, convenience of public market-goers, smooth operations of stall-owners; 7) Supporting the Angeles City Police Modernization program through sustained budgetary allocations to improve police visibility, mobility and communication capabilities; and 8) Transforming the lowly ‘Barangay Hall’ into modern ‘Barangay Complex’ which shall serve as a One-Stop-Center for the direct, efficient and timely delivery of basic social and administrative services to barangay residents.
“We have to work hand-in-hand in rebuilding and bringing back the glorious days of this city,” EdPam said.
