BALANGA CITY -Two still unidentified men riding a motorcycle gunned down an Abante tabloid lady reporter while waiting for a tricycle some 300 meters away from their house in a sitio here shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday.
Police said Nerlita “Nerlie” Ledesma, 47, sustained four gunshot wounds mostly on the chest and died on the spot. Her body lay sprawled on the concrete road near a small bridge with rows of houses. Police investigators recovered four empty shells and a slug from .45 pistol near the body of victim.
The victim worked as radio news anchor with Power Radio in Balanga City and with the Provincial Information Office at the Bataan Capitol. She was also president of the 200-member Tagnai Homeowners Association in Phase 2 of Sitio San Rafael in Barangay Tuyo here.
The Abante reporter, a native of Virac, Catanduanes, was alone waiting for a tricycle to report for work when waylaid. “Sana mabigyan ng katarungan ang pagkamatay ng asawa ko.
Wala naman siyang masamang ginagawa kundi ang makatulong sa mahihirap na walang bahay,” said her husband, former seaman Esteban “Jun” Ledesma. Jimmy Mangalindan, local radio broadcaster, said victim reported three times a week on his radio station Power Radio.
“Wala naman siyang masamang sinasabi sa radio kundi pawang magagandang bagay tungkol sa Bataan,” he said. Mangalindan said sometime two years ago, the victim’s house was riddled with bullets but for still unknown reason.
The victim left husband and 18-year-old daughter Pamela Grace, 2nd year college student at the University of the Philippines-Los Banos. She was a member of the National Press Club and the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines. Police are still conducting investigations.
