    SM Olongapo hosts 47th Cityhood of Olongapo

    OLONGAPO CITY —  “Yesterday, it was only a dream, today it becomes a reality, these kids will surely remember this day until they grow up, thank you to SM Olongapo,” Ms. Nenita Alvarez, Iram II principal expressed during the celebration of the 47th Cityhood of Olongapo held at SM Cinema 2 on June 01, 2013.

    Fifty six (56) Aeta children from Sitio Mampueng were given tribute as they are considered the descendants of the early settlers in Olongapo. The group was invited through the City Agriculture Office.

    These underprivileged children of Iram II Elementary School ages between 6-12 enjoyed a day of entertainment from Jollibee mascot , movie treat in 3D format courtesy of SM Cinema, tour around the mall, plus food and prizes.

    Each child was also given a grocery bag from SM Supermarket, school supplies furnished by SM Admin personnel, National Bookstore and Councilor Tet Marzan. 

    During the program,  a video presentation about a glimpse of how Olongapo progress  from its unique history and amazing transformation to the model city it is today was played.

    In his speech, Mayor James Gordon, Jr. stressed that Olongapo was first inhabited by the Aetas and governed by a chieftain called “Apo”.  “I hope someday one of the IP’s will become leader of Olongapo,” he added. 

    He also mentioned the remarkable achievements of the Gordon family in Olongapo, having  been known for its long history of public service in the city.

    The 47th Cityhood of Olongapo in SM is a way to celebrate with the host city and do its share in the community it serves. 

    SM is not only a retail industry leader, but also a catalyst towards positive change in our nation, leading by example when it comes to corporate social responsibility, the SM Cares program serves as the holistic and cohesive flagship for the many SM Supermalls CSR programs.

    Guests led by Olongapo City Mayor James Gordon, Jr., SBMA director and first lady Anne Marie Gordon, City Councilors Eyrma Yvette Marzan, Eduardo Piano and BJ Cajudo, City Museum Curator Gregorio Elane, City Librarian Beth Daduya were welcomed by SM City Olongapo assistant mall manager Engr. Junias Eusebio.

    The event was also supported by the Rotaract Club of Freeport Zone, the City Scholars and the Rotary Club of Freeport Zone.
