CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) concreted the 1.1-kilometer section of a farm-to-market road (FMR) in San Isidro, Nueva Ecija.

The FMR is a portion of the National Irrigation Administration-Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation Systems access road in barangay Santo Cristo.

DPWH Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineer Elpidio Trinidad highlighted that the smooth surface of the newly concreted five-meter road can help reduce wear and tear on vehicles.

“Once the concreting of the entire irrigation road is completed, this will provide ease in travel between San Isidro and Gapan City, avoiding congestion at Jose Abad Santos Avenue,” he said.

He added that this will save up transportation costs for farmers and enable them to reach markets more quickly and efficiently.

For his part, DPWH Nueva Ecija 2nd Assistant District Engineer Robert Jay Panaligan emphasized that improved roads can give residents better access to community centers, schools, and medical facilities.

“Now, they are safer for motorists as well as pedestrians due to improved road visibility, while residents no longer have to endure dusty environments,” he stated.

P11.7 million was allotted for the project under the agency’s convergence initiative with the Department of Agriculture. (CLJD/JLDC-PIA 3)
