LIMAY, Bataan — The Bataan provincial government and the Limay municipal government on Wednesday entered into a memorandum of agreement with state-owned Pag-IBIG Fund for the establishment of three housing projects in the town.

To start the construction, groundbreaking rites were held in Maharlika villages in Barangays Kitang 2 and Luz and sitios Saay and Mamala in San Francisco de Asis.

Pag-IBIG Fund CEO Marilene Acosta, Gov. Jose Enrique Garcia 3rd and Limay Mayor Nelson David signed the MOA witnessed by some Pag-IBIG trustees, 2nd District Rep. Albert Garcia and Limay Vice-Mayor Richie Jason David.

Vice-Mayor David said the housing projects in the three villages have a total area of six hectares that will benefit 2,500 families out of 12,000 informal settlers in the town at affordable price. He said that housing units that  cost not less than a million pesos in the commercial market will be available to a beneficiary  at a loanable amount of P300,000 to P500,000.

“Napakalaking tulong ng mga abot-kayang halaga ng pabahay sa ating mga kababayan dahil isa ito sa pangunahing pangangailangan ng bawat pamilya. Patuloy tayong makikipag-ugnayan sa iba’t ibang sangay ng pamahalaan para magkaroon din ng pabahay sa ibang bayan upang tumaas pa ang kalidad ng pamumuhay ng bawat pamilyang Bataeno,” Governor Garcia said.

For his part, Congressman Garcia said the housing projects in Limay will contribute to helping the province cope with the housing backlog.

He explained that there are many employment opportunities in Bataan due to various industries in Limay, the Freeport Area of Bataan in Mariveles, and the economic zone in Hermosa.

With the presence of many job opportunities in Bataan aside from the national growth in population, the congressman said, there is migration of people from as far as the Visayas and Mindanao to look for work in this province.

“Kung walang pabahay, doon nagkakaroon ng backlog so kailangan makahabol tayo para ang ating mga kababayan at maging ang mga dayo ay magkaroon ng magandang buhay,” the solon said.

He thanked President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Sec. Jerry Acuzar of the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development, and Pag-IBIG Fund for helping Bataan manage its housing backlog.

Mayor David was filled with emotion when he thanked Pag-IBIG for giving Limayans “decent, convenient and affordable” homes.
