SUBIC BAY FREEPORT–The Department of Trade and Industry-Zambales office celebrated Consumer Welfare Month 2023 with events held at Ayala Malls Harbor Point on Oct. 19.
The DTI is mandated to promote consumer awareness and vigilance among consumer, promote its general welfare and establish standards of conduct of business and industry.
The agency partners with private business organizations that will initiate, promote, collaborate and support the agency’s consumer- related activities and consumer rights and responsibilities. The same includes consumer education, information, and advocacy of consumer-related information materials.
As part of the celebrations, DTI-Zambales provincial director Enrique Tacbad led the awarding of the Bagwis Award that “gives due recognition to establishments that uphold the rights of consumers while practicing responsible business where consumers get the best value for money.”
The Gold Bagwis awardees were CSI Warehouse Club Inc. for Best Home Furniture, Houseware and Appliance Center, Department Store, and Hardware Plus; and Golden ABC, Inc. for Penshoppe, Forme, Oxygen, and Regatta.
The Silver Bagwis went to Crown Ace Hardware and General Merchandise Inc. for its main store and Tabacuhan branch; and Magiclub Inc. (Department Store) in Sta. Cruz, Zambales.
The Bronze Bagwis went to Edmin Ref and Aircon Service Center of Olongapo City.
DTI Zambales also awarded the winners of E-Guhit Poster Making Contest and Spoken Poetry Contest.
Winners of Spoken Poetry Contest, 1st Place – Joshua Mas (DepEd Tayo Olongapo City Regional Science HS III); 2nd Place – Kianne Riezl Tizon of (San Guillermo National High School – 301029) at 3rd Place – Mark Daniel Toralba (St. Benilde Center for Global Competence Inc.).
For E-Guhit Poster Making Contest, 1st Place – Alyssa Nicholclenze L. Guera (Columban College, Inc).; 2nd Place – Mary Louise Joy Ramirez (St. Benilde Center for Global) Competence Inc.; 3rd Place – Pauline E. Batinga (St. James School of Subic, Inc.)
The winners received certificates and cash prizes of P3,000, P2,000, and P1,000.
All the winners will be competing on at the regional level in the City of San Fernando on Oct. 24.
