ABUCAY, Bataan: The local government here started distributing cash assistance to its citizens aged 80 – 100 years old, the office of the municipal mayor  announced over the weekend.

Municipal tourism officer Genel Llanes Real said Mayor Robin Tagle  with municipal social welfare and development officer Rosalie  Cabrera and chairmen of respective barangays distributed the cash assistance house-to-house so as not to burden the elderly.

Citizens aged 80 – 89 are entitled to cash of P10,000 each  while those 90 – 99 years old receive P20,000 from the municipal government of Abucay.  Centenarians are given  P10,000 each in addition to P100,000 from the national government.

“Malapit sa puso ni Mayor Tagle ang mga senior citizens at isa ito sa prayoridad niyang programa sa lahat ng mamamayan ng Abucay,” Llanes Real said.

Quoting data from the MSWDO, he  said the Abucay municipal government has so far paid P3.77 million to 377 citizens aged 80 – 89 at P10,000 each  and P1.5M to 75 individuals  of from 90 – 99 years old at P20,000 each. Two centenarians have so far availed of P10,000 extra each.

This coming November, 30 individuals aged 80 -99 were scheduled for the house-to-house payout.

Llanes Real said the granting of P10,000 to those aged 80 – 89 and P20,000 to 90 – 99 years old was subject of an amendment to a municipal ordinance while the additional P10,000 for centenarians was through the initiative of Mayor Tagle. (30)
