CALUMPIT, Bulacan — A combination of high tide and the monsoon rains submerged 17 barangays here prompting the local government to suspend classes on Friday.

Based on the report of Calumpit Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, barangays Balungao, Buguion, Buluzan, Calizon, Caniogan, Frances, Gatbuca, Gugo, Iba O’Este, Meyto, Panducot, San Jose, San Miguel, Sapang Bayan, Sta. Lucia, and Sto. Nino were submerged in floods from one to four feet deep.

The most affected are barangays of Gugo and Meysulao with areas of chest-deep flooding.

The LGU has declared the suspension of classes today at all levels in public schools while the suspension of classes in private schools is at the discretion of the administrators.

Meanwhile, the school grounds of Sta. Lucia National High School were submerged in thigh-deep water while some residents here still use boats as mode of transportation.

Sta. Lucia resident Jose Vicente said that aside from high tide they were also affected by the release of water from the dams and called on the government to dredge the rivers in Calumpit as solution to perennial flooding.
