MALOLOS CITY – The Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School (MHPNHS) in this city has been implementing shifting of classes for several decades already due to the high number of enrollees.

According to Myrna Dela Cruz, OIC-assistant principal, enrollees in the senior high school alone are now at 3,365 and continuing to rise as with enrollment for school year 2023-2024 still ongoing.

In the junior high school, the enrollees are over 4,000. The total student population here is expected to reach 8,000 to 9,000 this year. This number, she said, is twice the normal capacity of MHPNHS.

Currently, the shifting of classes is implemented here from 6 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. and 12:20 p.m. to 5:40 p.m.

Dela Cruz explained that MHPNHS has been implementing shifting of classes since the 1980s noting that the learning materials and facilities in their school are sufficient though because year after year, such a large population of students was already expected.
