LAUR, NUEVA ECIJA (PIA) — Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Central Luzon turned over two subprojects in Laur as part of the Kapit-Bisig Laban Sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS).

One is the high school classroom building in Barangay San Isidro worth P1,549,123.47; of which P1,084,386.43 came from DSWD KALAHI-CIDSS, and P464,737.04 came from the local government.

Another is the day care center in Barangay San Josep worth P1,455,085.18. Of this amount, P571,445.33 came from DSWD KALAHI-CIDSS; P845,356.25 from the local government; and P38,283.60 from the barangay.

DSWD Region III KALAHI-CIDSS Area Coordinator John Charles Dela Cruz said Laur is one of the municipalities in Nueva Ecija selected to benefit from KALAHI-CIDSS subprojects based on the agency’s assessment.

Dela Cruz noted that the subprojects provided by KALAHI-CIDSS to the barangays depend on their priority needs determined through Participatory Situation Analysis.

The analysis undertaken in the two barangays revealed that both need support in establishing and developing schools in their area.

Dela Cruz shared that Barangay San Isidro is an isolated barangay in Laur where schools, particularly high schools, are difficult to access.

Meanwhile, he said that the day care center in Barangay San Josep had previously been constructed but was not standardized.

Therefore, the subprojects were developed through KALAHI-CIDSS to ensure that students in the two barangays may benefit better.

During the turnover of the projects, Mayor Christoper Daus thanked DSWD for the subprojects they received through the program.

“I am expressing my gratitude because, with the help of the DSWD KALAHI-CIDSS, little by little change is happening in our town,” Daus said.

To date, KALAHI-CIDSS has implemented 11 subprojects in the town of Laur.

These include road construction, water system upgrades, and the purchase of communication gadgets.

KALAHI-CIDSS aims to give opportunities to the communities to decide, plan, and prioritize problems in the barangay to elicit change and development in their communities. (MJSC/MAECR-PIA 3)
