MARIVELES, Bataan — What is considered as the largest coal-fired power plant in the Philippines operating in Barangay Alas-Asin here has recorded another feat.
Unit 2 of GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. has broken its record of 79 continuous days of operations after turning it into 100 days as of July 7, 2023, Laurice Anne Zapanta, stakeholder and public relations associate of GNPD, announced Tuesday, July 11.
She said GNPD has confirmed that since the unit’s last synch date on March 31, 2023 or the last date it connected to the grid during the startup, the team has reported 100 days or about three and a half months of continuous running operations.
For 85 days, Unit 2 operated without derations and steam cooler repairs, she said.
“As the largest coal-fired power plant in the Philippines in terms of capacity, supplying 1,668 megawatts to the Luzon Grid, with around 30 distribution utility and two retail electricity suppliers’ secured contracts, this remarkable feat is essential in upholding GNPD’s commitment to empowering progress by delivering efficient energy to its distributors and customers,” Zapanta furthered.
She said that Unit 1 of GNPD has been generating power since March 2021 and started commercial operation on December 2, 2021 while Unit 2 successfully synchronized to the grid on April 23, 2022 and on May 27, 2022 began to operate at its full-load capacity.
“GNPD promotes stability and reliability in the energy sector by overseeing the long-term continuous running operations and ensuring that energy demands in the grid are successfully met,” Zapanta added.
GNPD operates under the private limited partnership of AboitizPower’s Therma Power, Inc. and Ayala Corp.’s AC Energy Holdings, Inc. and Power Partners Ltd. Co.
