SAMAL, Bataan — The Department of Health through the municipal health center here continued on the second day Wednesday vaccination against measles for babies.
In Barangay Sta. Lucia, nurses of the Samal health center, with the assistance of barangay health workers (BHWs) and other barangay officials conducted the vaccination scheduled by sitios to avoid overcrowding.
BHWs gave lollipops and biscuits before the vaccination to calm down the children in the DOH program dubbed “Chikiting Ligtas” or “Ligtas Tigdas”.
After the anti-measles vaccination that made the babies cry, each was orally given Vitamin A drop for a healthy immune system.
“Ang purpose ng Ligtas Tigdas ay para maiiwas natin ang mga batang edad 6 – 59 months kontra tigdas. Isinasabay na rin ang pagbibigay ng Vitamin A sa kanila,” DOH nurse Rachel Lucia dela Cruz explained.
She said that the measles vaccine and Vitamin A given free by the Samal health center will go on from May 2 – 31.
Target number of children to be vaccinated in Sta. Lucia, dela Cruz said, was 220 while for the whole of Samal with 14 barangays was more than 3,000.
