LIMAY, Bataan: An association of jeepney operators and drivers in Bataan conducted tree planting as requirement for the consolidation of their franchise while at the same time helping the environment.
Members of the Balanga – Lamao Operators and Drivers Association (BLODA) planted last Saturday more than 1,000 mangrove tree seedlings at the sea in Barangay Mabatang in Abucay, Bataan.
The jeepneys under BLODA ply the Balanga City to Lamao in Limay town and vice versa route.
“Ang layunin namin sa pagtatanim ng bakawan ay hindi lamang upang sumunod sa requirement ng Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board para sa consolidation ng aming franchise kundi higit ang nakatulong sa ating kapaligiran, “ BLODA president Arnulfo Vitangcol said.
He said that caring for the environment should be every one’s concern and all must share for its preservation.
Vitangcol said that mangroves not only help protect communities as barrier during typhoons and big waves but also serve as breeding ground for fish and crabs.
Aside from Vitangcol, the other officials of BLODA are Isagani Esconde, Cristino Mira, Apolinario Agulto and Marcelino Caraan.
