CAPAS, Tarlac (PIA) — Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) collected a total of 240 bags of blood from a donation drive at Camp O’Donnell in Capas, Tarlac.
The activity, themed “Sagip Dugtong Buhay”, was carried out in partnership with Philippine Red Cross (PRC), and GMA Kapuso Foundation.
TRADOC Commander Brigadier General Luis Rex Bergante thanked their partner-organizations, and emphasized the impact of bloodletting activities to address the increasing demand for blood caused by sickness, accidents, and other situations.
“Again, let us continue this local undertaking which not only benefits TRADOC or GMA Kapuso Foundation or Philippine Red Cross, but also our fellow Filipinos who are or who will be in dire need of blood,” he noted.
About 10 percent of the blood collected will proceed to V. Luna Medical Center while the remaining bags will supplement the blood banks of different PRC branches.
P2LT Mary Evangelyn Duronio said she donated blood to save the lives of her comrades who will need blood transfusion in the future.
“As an aspiring Army officer, this [blood donation] makes a huge difference for my fellow soldiers. As we all know, we fight for peace in our country. This is to help injured soldiers in case they need blood,” she said.
Meanwhile, P2LT Ronnel Cedo shared that donating blood is just one way of fulfilling his personal mission of helping the community and his fellow soldiers.
“As a future Army officer, it is my duty to help the Philippine Army,” Cedo added.
The activity was in line with the celebration of the 126th Founding Anniversary of the Philippine Army. (CLJD/TJBM-PIA 3)
