MABALACAT CITY – With a bountiful harvest of medals in recent international competitions, Mabalaquenian powerlifter Joyce Reboton has brought honor not only to her hometown but to the whole country.
Reboton, 30, won the bronze medals in World Equipped Open Powerlifting Championships held last November 12-18, in Viborg, Denmark under the 76kg Open Class (Squat 225kg Bronze; Bench Press: 150kg (Asian Open Record, all time highest benchpress); Deadlift: 205kg Bronze; Total: 580kg Bronze).
She broke the Asian Bench Press Open record in 76kg, became the first Filipina to Bench Press 150kg and first Filipino powerlifter to win a World Total medal for both Classic and Equipped Powerlifting in the said event.
She also brought home gold and silver medals from the Asian Classic Powerlifting Championships 2022, held last Dec. 1-7, in Dubai, UAE, particularly Squat: 192.5 Gold; Bench press: 105kg Gold; Deadlift: 192.5 Silver; and Total: 490kg Gold, all under the 76kg Open Class category.
Reboton received a P50,000 assistance from the city government for her achievements and in support for her future competitions.
