ANGELES CITY — Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. instructed Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (ACDRRMO) Rudy Simeon to personally deliver the relief goods donated by the city chief executives and residents of Angeles to the victims of Typhoon Paeng in Silang, Cavite.

The joint forces of key offices — composed of personnel from ACDRRMO, City Social Welfare and Development Office, led by Edna Duaso, Angeles City Barangay Outreach, headed by Michael Lising, City Information Office, led by Arnel San Pedro and Environmental Management System-City Engineer’s Office, headed by Engr. Donato Dizon — personally handed over the donation to Silang Municipality Administrator Nathaniel Anarna and Municipality Social Welfare and Development Officer Ethel Bartolome.

The city government started a donation drive last November 2, 2022 for the benefit of the victims of Typhoon Paeng.

Mayor Lazatin has allocated P500,000 from the Mayor’s Office fund for the procurement of hygiene kits and diapers for the typhoon victims.

For his part, Mayor Lazatin donated P50,000 from his own salary for the procurement of canned goods.

Apart from this, Lazatin’s Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel gave a personal financial donation of P25,000.

Mayor Lazatin also thanked Angeleños, private sectors and organizations, and even residents from Mabalacat City, and Magalang town who dropped off their donations.

“Itong tulong na binigay po natin sa mga biktima ng bagyo ay pagbabalik lamang sa mga tulong na binigay po ng mga karatig nating mga lalawigan noong tayo naman po ang nangailangan noong pumutok ang Mount Pinatubo,” Lazatin said.

Dubbed as “Saup Angeleños para sa mga Biktima ng Bagyong Paeng”, among the donations from the city are 49 boxes of cup noodles, 30 cases and 120 pieces of noodles, 12 boxes and 44 cases of canned goods, 100 sacks of rice, 1,913 packs of diapers, 225 packs of sanitary napkins, and 532 pieces hygiene kits.

“In our own capacities, we would like to extend a helping hand to our Kababayans severely affected by the typhoon,” Lazatin added.

This is not the first time that Mayor Lazatin sent help to disaster-hit areas in the country in the past.

On December 2019, the city handed over relief goods and a cash donation of P500,000 each to 10 municipalities in North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Davao Del Sur, which were severely affected by the strong successive earthquakes in October.

In addition, last January and February 2021, the city government sent 3 truckloads of relief goods and hygiene kits and 3 passenger vehicles carrying a medical team, social workers, and volunteers to the municipalities of Tuy and Balayan, and City of Lipa in Batangas, and City of Legazpi in Albay, to the families who were greatly affected by the recent eruption of Taal Volcano and Typhoon Tisoy, respectively.

In November 2021, the city government sent food packs worth P2 million to 4,000 families in Cagayan and Isabela severely affected by typhoon Ulysses.

In December 2021, the “Saup Angeleños para kareng Bisayanon”, which was also a donation drive for the victims of Typhoon Odette garnered ₱220,000 worth of canned goods, ₱40,000 for diapers, ₱200,000 for bottles of drinking water, ₱40,000 for packs of sanitary napkins, and ₱20,000 pieces for soap and toothpaste.

Mayor Lazatin also allocated P500,000 from the city’s calamity fund for the procurement of the said assistance.

Apart from this, Mayor Lazatin also donated P50,000 from his salary for additional canned goods, while Calaguas and Manuel also gave a personal financial donation of P25,000.
