ANGELES CITY – An angry PNP Director General Ronald de la Rosa showed up here Thursday to lash at the entire police force of this city and see for himself the faces of seven policemen accused of extorting from Korean tourists in this city last Dec. 30.

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan said cases of kidnap for ransom and robbery were filed against the seven cops before the city prosecutor last Tuesday.

Pamintuan attended De la Rosa’s meeting with local cops at the city police headquarters at Camp Tomas Pepito in Barangay Sto. Domingo.

De la Rosa flared up when he was presented the seven cops, who were still in police uniforms, at the parade grounds of the camp.

De la Rosa ordered them on push-up position at the flagpole for about seven minutes and cursed them for their crimes.

The cops have already been relieved and placed under restrictive custody of the Angeles police.

The cops, all disarmed and relieved from their posts at Police Station 5 here, included former station head Chief Inspector Wendell Arinas and his deputy Senior Inspector Rolando Yutuc.

Also relieved and placed under investigation were Police Offi cer 3 Roentjen Domingo, PO2s Ruben Rodriguez , Jose Yumul, Rommel Manicdao, and Richard King Agapito, as well as PO1s Jayson Ibe and Mark Joseph Pineda.

PO3 Gomerson Evangelista and PO3 Arnold Nagayo were initially in the list but were replaced by Yumul and Manicdao.

The relieved cops were accused of carting off the bags and other personal belongings of the three South Koreans, two of them identified as Park Minhoon and Lee Ki-hoon, during a raid on the house where the victims stayed when they were on vacation in the country last Dec. 30.

The cops falsely accused the Koreans of engaging in illegal online gambling and detained the foreigners at Station 5 where they were allegedly beaten up. The police officers released the South Koreans after the victims paid a total of P310,000 in cash.

Domingo was reportedly the one who received the P310,000 extorted from the Koreans.

After manifesting anger, however, De la Rosa shared boodle fight lunch with the local cops, except the seven who were carted off to their custodial area.
