CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The town of Gerona, Tarlac marked its fiesta over the weekend with what local officials claimed as the longest boodle fight fare in Philippine history, stretching 100 meters long on the road in front of the town hall.

Gerona Mayor Eloy Eclar expressed hope the boodle fiesta table which he initiated would attract the attention of the Guinness World Records.

He said the boodle table was laden with rice with pork and chicken afritada and adobo dishes served on banana leaves.

“We cooked 12 cavans of rice, 2,500 kilos of pork and chicken and served 8,000 bottles of mineral water for the boodle fight,” Eclar said. A total of 920 tables were used for the event.

Eclar said the boodle fight was fiesta gift to local folk from him and local businessmen. He said some 7,000 of his constituents showed up to partake of the lunch whose volume was enough for 8,000 folk.

“I am fulfilling an election promise,” he said, recalling that during the campaign period for the last local elections, he promised local folk a boodle fight gift if he would win.

He also recalled that in his youth in this town, his family seldom cooked fiesta fare which they enjoyed only in other households. “It’s time people partook of my fiesta fare,” he added.
