“We urge Congress members from the Liberal Party who plan to switch to the succeeding Duterte administration, to prove their worth in working for change by overriding the veto of the P2,000 SSS pension hike,” Anakpawis Rep. Fernando Hicap said in a statement.
Hicap noted that last March in Angeles City, Duterte vowed to reverse the presidential veto of the pension hike.
“A lot of people are banking on the presumptive president’s slogan that ‘change is coming,’ and we assert that it should start as soon as possible, initially with the increase in pension of SSS members,” Hicap said.
He noted that the motion for the veto override led by Anakpawis Rep. Neri Colmenares has garnered 95 signatures of members of the Lower House as of May 13, while at the Senate, Sen. Francis Escudero’s similar motion has gathered 11 signatures before May 9. “Two-thirds vote of both chambers, 192 at the House and 16 at the Senate are required for the veto override,” he said.
“As the victory of presumptive President Duterte clearly manifested the Filipino people’s aspiration for change and fundamental reforms, we urge the people take on the tasks of concretely carrying it out by joining the public clamor for the SSS pension hike,” Hicap added.
