CLARK FREEPORT – Vice presidential candidate Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. lambasted yesterday the Aquino administration for being “un-Filipino” in depriving detained ex-Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo full access to medical assistance.

In a press conference here during his campaign sortie in Pampanga yesterday, Marcos said that Mrs. Arroyo or “any Filipino” should be given a chance to recuperate from illness.

“We should remember that Ninoy Aquino (Pres. Aquino’s late father) was allowed to go to the US for surgery after it was found that he had a heart condition,” Marcos said.

During martial law in 1980, then Pres. Marcos, Sr. allowed the President’s father Ninoy, who was then also under detention, to fly to Dallas, Texas for a heart bypass.

“I don’t understand this government’s policy (in barring Mrs. Aquino to undergo medical treatment abroad). It’s very un-Filipino,” Marcos said.

At the same time, he also said he was hopeful that Mrs. Arroyo, who continues to be under hospital arrest amid her ailment, would support his vice presidential bid.

Mrs. Arroyo is seeking reelection as congresswoman in Pampanga second district. She is running unopposed.
