BALANGA CITY — Those involved in dried fish-making in this city still have no problem in the supply of salt but said on Thursday that they are starting to feel the rising price of the main ingredient of tuyo.

This city, especially the fishing villages of Puerto Riva Itaas and Puerto Rivas Ibaba, is known for its tasty tuyo.

The tuyo-makers from Puerto Rivas Ibaba said they still have enough supply of salt from Pangasinan or Bulacan but are short in fish supply due to bad weather, and the increasing price of salt affected them.

The present price of salt, they said, ranged from P270 to more than P300 per 40-kilo sack.

Bernadeth Medina said the price of salt that rose from P190 per sack to P270 coupled with the low fish catch affected the price of dried fish.

Ronel Carlos said the supply of salt was still okay. He said that he consumes one sack of 40 kilos of salt for every cooler of fish made into tuyo.
