JAEN, Nueva Ecija – A 63-year-old village councilor allied with the incumbent municipal administration survived a gun attack in Barangay Malabon Kaingin here at about 6:45 p.m. Monday.

The victim was identified as Marianito Herminigildo of the said village. He was the second personality to have been attacked in span of one month in this town after the national and local elections. The first, who also survived, was a private individual who spoke during meetings of reelected Mayor Sylvia Austria on
May 24.

Investigation disclosed Herminigildo was driving an e-bike on his way home from his farm when ambushed by riding-in-tandem suspects using a .9mm caliber pistol.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including a bullet that pierced through his face. He is currently at the intensive care unit in a hospital, said the victim’s wife Imelda. Austria expressed alarm over the incidents.

She urged the police to immediately run after the perpetrators to stop the spate of post-election violence: “Bigyan mg mabilisang aksiyon at bigyan ng bantay ang
nasabing nabaril.”

“Napansin namin na sa loob ng isang buwan, dalawang malalapit sa amin na tao
ang nabaril at hanggang sa ngayon ay wala pang solusyon na nangyayari,” the
mayor noted.

Town police chief Major Rommel Lopez said they were told by doctors to give the
victim enough time to rest considering his condition. “Nahihirapan din syang magsalita dahil nasira ang kanyang dentures dahil sa tamamg bala na pumasok sa pisngi at lumabas sa kabila,” Lopez said.

The police though are collating several CCTV footages before and after the attack,
he said.
