BALANGA CITY — Vendors at the public market here said on Friday that they are experiencing shortage of supply of chicken meat while its price and that of poultry eggs continue to rise.

They even asked incoming President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. whom they refer to as BBM to come to their rescue.

“Nananawagan kami kay BBM na sana suportahan kaming mga nasa meat section sa chicken, wala kaming makuhanan na medyo mababa,” Evelyn Avocado and other chicken meat vendors appealed.

Avocado said there is lack of chicken meat supply due to high demand coupled with their dwindling capitalization.

She said that from their selling price of P160 – P170 a kilo of fresh chicken meat, it rose to the present P190 – P200 which they found it hard to gain.

“Napakahirap magtinda ngayon dahil napakamahal  na kahit P190 – P200 na ang benta ay halos wala kaming kitain dahil ang puhunan namin ay P175 sa linis na at sa ibang supplier naman ay P185 na buo pa,” Avocado said.

Mae Ann Navarro voiced the same concern: “Tataas pa raw ang presyo ng manok dahil sumasabay daw ang dealer sa pagtaas ng gasolina.”

Poultry egg sellers said that in almost every delivery, the price of eggs increased at P50 per case that suppliers attributed the lack of supply to bird flu.

“Mahal na talaga ang kuha namin. Ang dating P4.50 na itlog, ngayon ay nasa P5.25 na. Ang itinaas ay nasa P20 per tray,” egg vendor Naira Triguero said.
