Bust of first Filipino gov of Bataan unveiled

BALANGA CITY — The bust of the first Filipino governor of Bataan was unveiled in simple ceremony at the Capitol ground Monday.

Gov. Albert Garcia who was elected in the just-concluded elections as congressman of the second district led the unveiling of the bust of Don Tomas Guillermo T. del Rosario.

Vice-Gov. Ma. Cristina Garcia with some members of the sangguniang panlalawigan attended the occasion.

Del Rosario who was born in Binondo, Manila on February 10, 1857 died in Balanga, Bataan at 56 years old on July 4, 1913. He served as Bataan governor from 1903 to 1905.

A judge and former representative of Surigao in the Malolos Congress and the Philippine Assembly in 1898, he was remembered for advocating the separation of church and the state.

Respected sculptor Juan Sajid Imao made the bust, a project under the cultural heritage preservation division led by Jayper Merla. The sculptor is son of Abdulamari Imao, national artist for sculpture.

“Kasabay ng patuloy na pag-unlad ng Bataan ay ang ating pagsasagawa ng mga proyektong nagsusulong sa ating kasaysayan at kultura,” the outgoing governor said.
