Free diabetes tests to irrigation employees

CABANATUAN CITY – A total of 114 staff and officials of the National Irrigation Administration-Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-UPRIIS) have undergone random blood sugar or fasting sugar test, in an effort to promote the well-being of its human resources, at the Farmers’ Training Center here.

NIA-UPRIIS department manager Engr. Rosalinda B. Bote said that the activity held starting May 11 to May 22 was part of the four-point agenda of NIA administrator Ricardo R. Visaya which aims to develope healthy human resources “which also includes the promotion of health and well-being of employees aside from improving their skills and capabilities.”

The activity was administered by the two resident medical practitioners namely senior industrial nurse Maria Kristina C. Reyes and nurse Russellene D. Prieto.

Spearheaded by Bote and administrative and finance division manager Milca B. Cayanga, the project was primarily for diabetes prevention and management.

“This year, the UPRIIS management targets to facilitate this activity on a monthly basis alongside with other medical services, and annual physical examination that is expected to start by the last week of May to monitor the health condition of the employees who are considered the best assets of the agency,” Bote said.
